Award-winning designer Joan Kaufman is celebrating 20 years in business for Interior Planning & Design, Inc. Based in Naperville, the firm specializes in orchestrating projects form conception to completion by coordinating all design aspects from start to finish.

ASID-Illinois Chapter announced its new Board of Directors for 2009-2010. The eight-member volunteer board will be led by Joan Kaufman, owner of Interior Planning & Design, Inc. The board will bolster current programs and focus on building harmony in the interior design industry and community.

Registered interior designer Joan Kaufman, a member of the American Society of Interior Designers – Illinois Chapter (ASID-IL), was elected president of the 1,600-member chapter for the 2009-2010 fiscal year, which began October 1, 2009. Kaufman has been an active member in the organization since 1985. In addition to her newly appointed position, Kaufman’s interior design firm, Interior Planning and Design, is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2010.

In addition to her involvement with ASID, Kaufman recently became LEED accredited, has passed the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) Exam and is a professional member of IIDA. She also is a certified professional Feng Shui practitioner.

Joan Kaufman, a member of the American Society of Interior Designers – Illinois Chapter (ASID-IL), was recently elected president-elect of ASID-IL for the 2008-09 fiscal year. She will serve as president of the association for fiscal year 2009-10.

Kaufman, a resident of Naperville, Ill., is president of Interior Planning and Design, Inc., a full-service interior design firm she founded in 1990. She is also a professional member of IIDA and FSII, and has passed the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) Exam.

“I feel honored and privileged to be a part of such a professional organization,” Kaufman says. “I’m looking forward to working with my colleagues and representing our industry both to the public and within our industry. Interior design can have a tremendous impact on people’s lives and our goal is to ensure the highest level of design professionalism while educating the public and private sector the value of working with an interior design professional.”

The ASID-IL chapter is a non-profit professional association representing more than 1,600 Illinois-based interior designers, students and design industry partners. The chapter is led by a volunteer board that includes the Chapter’s president, president-elect, 5 directors and a student representative. Kaufman has been an active member in the organization since 1988.
