“As a designer I am a trend setter not a trend follower.”

Nine years and three decorating projects ago, Cherie Wardrop’s friend recommended she call interior designer Joan Kaufman. Kaufman is CEO of Winfield-based Interior Planning and Design, Inc.

When they first got together, Wardrop was living in a large, single-family home in Hinsdale in which Kaufman played a role in the design and decoration. Now, she and Kaufman are putting the final touches on a two-bedroom, two-bath condominium just off North Michigan Avenue along Chicago’s Magnificent Mile.

In between, Kaufman assembled a temporary apartment for Wardrop.
