Interior decorator finds celebrity in job she loves
Joan Kaufman believes it’s what is on the inside that counts. The 46-year-old lifelong Naperville resident isn’t into therapy or counseling – her “inside” orientation is all about interior decorating, a lifelong passion she first discovered as a student when she took a course in the subject at the University of Illinois and fell in love with the field.
“This work was something that I loved from the start and wanted to make a part of my day-to-day life,” Kaufman said. “It was the perfect combination of art and business.”
Kaufman’s business, Interior Planning & Design, was first launched in 1990 in Wheaton. Eight years later, she moved to Winfield, and two years ago, she came to Naperville – moves that she said have made her more accessible to her customers.
These days, she finds her work fairly evenly split between commercial and residential jobs.
One of her more prestigious projects in the former area has been to redecorate the headquarters of the Chicago Wolves hockey team in Glenview.
