The goal of the project was to update the look of the gathering space, making it more pleasant for the residents, while combating a difficult situation with “sun-downing”.

Convalescent Center - Joan Kaufman, ASID was consulted regarding solutions to these concerns. The solutions are multi-dimensional. First, the confining walls separating the gathering space into two areas were removed, and new sun screening shades were installed to allow residents to take advantage of a corner window view. The walls of the elevator area were turned into a garden scene. The soffit and columns that remained in the open area after removing the walls were also painted to carry on a garden trellis scheme.
